“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee” (Proverbs 23:7)
Mindfulness is a psychological process of bringing one’s attention to the HERE and NOW with regard to one’s internal and external experiences. In real life, everyone’s mind is constantly bombarded with information from the past, present which the person uses to shape or mare the future. Mindfulness Therapy enables the person to focus his mind on the presence.
Mindfulness has been combined with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), in what is now termed Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), which is now increasingly recognised as effective Therapy for treatment of anxiety, depression, stress related problems as well as other mental health issues .
Mindfulness enables the practitioner to focus his mind and thoughts on the presence and make efforts to let go the past. Mindfulness uses different techniques such as meditation, breathing exercises and yoga. When done with commitment and passion, mindfulness has been noted to promote relaxation and peace of mind.
At last, science is now in total agreement with the word of God that man is the sum total of his thoughts. As a man thinks in his heart so is he. If the mind is focused on something positive in a controlled pattern, a lot of relaxation is generated.
In practice, find a quiet place where you can be alone for 45mins to an hour without distraction. Your position can vary from sitting to lying down to standing. Focus your mind, heart and spirit on something you value, treasure or feels passionate about. This could range from Spirituality to relationships to poetry or even garden work. Practice different relaxation methods while your mind is kept focused. Avoid being distracted.
On a daily basis create time to practice this regularly until perfection is achieved .
